Coming out of her shell...

Addison has finished her first semester of kindergarten and I am amazed at how much she has grown.  Academically, she has done well.  The growth I have been most pleased with is how she has become more willing to try new things.  She has always been cautious and fearful of new experiences.  I was worried that trait would cause her to struggle in school.  So far, that has not been the case.  Her teacher, Mrs. A. is a great match for her.  She is fun and laidback and has been the perfect encourager for Addison.

Back in November, Addison was chosen as Leader of the Pride.  A bit of background...Addison's school is a Leadership Magnet, so they emphasize leadership skills.  Their mascot is the lion.  So, each week, each class chooses a Leader of the Pride.  They have an assembly to recognize the leaders.  The leaders also get to eat pizza with the principal and ring the bell (not like the "bells" they have in school these days, but the old, bell-on-top-of-the school-that-you-ring-by-pulling-a-rope bell).

Here is Addison getting her award from the principal.

On the certificate Addison's teacher wrote that she was chosen for "having an unbelievable, positive attitude. Addison is so excited about trying new things--she grins from ear to ear, her eyes light up and she dives right in! I am so lucky to be her teacher and her classmates love her as well."
