Just a few weeks ago, I was semi-worrying...okay, I was worrying, about Addison's writing. She didn't like to do it...had no interest in writing or drawing for that matter. In fact, when she was really little, I would give her a box of crayons and paper and instead of scribbling, she would line the crayons up in a row...or sort them by shade. The teacher in me was starting to be concerned.
I have seen many students struggle in this area and I did NOT want Addison to be that student I saw time and time again. See, I want her to be good (not necessarily great) but GOOD at everything. I know, I know...silly Momma. The thing is...she is FOUR. The range for "normal" at her age might as well be the size of the Grand Canyon. I *think* I have been good about not passing my worry on to Addison or harping on her too much to write or draw. I have just tried to regularly incorporate some practice into our day...no pressure.
Well, what I was hoping would happen, appears to be happening. Since starting preschool and being around other kids who write and draw, she has started WANTING to do it too! Yippee!! Here's a little evidence:
After her friends, Emma and Taylor, left our house yesterday, Addison
wanted to write them an invitation. She chose sidewalk chalk:
"Come over..."
"Taylor"
(yes...that's my name too...in mid-thought
she wanted me to spell my name so she could write it)
"Emma"
(Don't mind the cute little boy...he just HAD to be in the picture!)

The proud writer!
