Kindergarten, Tea Parties, and Mother's Day

I am on the verge of moving from "a little behind on blogging" to "I'll never catch up," so I'm taking a minute this morning (when I should be working on my to-do list) to do a quick update.

We found out earlier this spring our house is not within the school boundary we thought it was.  With Addison starting kindergarten in the fall that was pretty bad news.  We started looking into different options.  Our area has a handful of magnet schools...so we applied to several of those.  There is a small district nearby that has open enrollment, so we put our name on the waiting list.  We looked into private schools...we considered trying to move...we considered homeschooling...every option was on the table.  A couple of weeks ago, we received our "acceptance" letter for our first choice magnet school.  We were expecting to be on a waiting list, so we were thrilled to get the letter.  We went to kindergarten round up last week...we met the kindergarten teachers, toured the building and are very excited to be a part of this school.  I can't believe Addison will be a kindergartener next year :(

For Christmas, Addison received a Fancy Nancy book all about tea parties.  Since then she has been obsessed with tea parties.  She wants every snack to be a tea party and often has tea parties with her stuffed animals (they are more compliant than her little brother).  She decided several months ago that she wanted to have a fancy tea party for her birthday.  Anyway, she was very excited when, a few weeks ago, her Grammy invited us to go to a tea party taking place in her town.  It was a fun afternoon.

We "took notes" for her upcoming party.  Addison discovered she likes egg salad sandwiches (which are now on the menu for her party).

This year's Mother's Day was about as perfect as they come...breakfast in bed...sweet homemade cards...great morning at church...and a superb picnic and afternoon at the zoo with my mom, stepdad, brother, Kyle, and the kids.  I couldn't have asked for more.

It was also a reflective kind-of-a-day for me too.  Mother's Day can be a painful day for some and this year I was keenly aware of that.  I have dear friends who are longing to be Momma's...others who have just lost babies...others who have recently lost their own mothers.  I thought of and prayed for those friends quite a bit that day.

What a privilege it is to be a mom.  When there are fits and arguments and messes (oh, how the messes never cease!), it's easy to lose sight of the blessing.  I am thankful for God's constant reminders to be grateful.
