I haven't written much about our garden this year. We have done a garden for several years now. We've had varying degrees of success. Our typical routine goes something like this: we are ambitiously gung-ho in the spring...plant a ton of stuff...maintain it well at the beginning...summer gets sweltering...our gung-hoedness wears off...garden is devoured by weeds...there is very little "fruit" from our labor.
This year we planted a very modest garden: a few red onions, a strawberry plant, a few pepper plants, a cucumber plant, a zucchini plant, two tomato plants, and some lettuce. Yes...that is modest compared to previous years. Between the two of us, Kyle and I have kept the garden fairly well weeded. It helps that Addison is all about playing outside these days, so we are out in the yard more than usual. Aside from keeping our lettuce in too long (turned bitter) and our zucchini plant up and dying (cannot figure out why), our garden is doing well.
Kyle harvested the first of our tomatoes and green beans. I wasn't quite ready to do anything with them yet, so I froze them. Pardon the blurry pictures:
This week I harvested another round of tomatoes and made homemade salsa. I tried a new recipe (HERE) that is so good. It's a bit more work than recipes I've used in the past, but oh my is it ever worth it!

Oh jealous! I've got a tomato in my greenhouse (the only place they grow) and tons of lettuce outside (they love our cool weather) and I've given up on peppers. One hint: lay down weed fabric before you plant next spring and just cut holes for your desired plants. It should help tremendously with the weeds!
Have fun!
